Still photographs keyed to annotated elevations are essential because they support the graphical notes by providing backup documentation of specific faults identified. Vertical Access technicians use red "keel" or lumber crayon to mark unique photo I.D. numbers directly on the building, adjacent to the fault, so that the numbers show up in the photos. Where it is exposed to the weather, the keel washes off within a few seasons.
